Seneca College Geothermal Plant Installation
Geothermal energy is one of the most effective ways for buildings to manage their carbon footprint. Bird Infrastructure partnered with Aecon Utilities to retrofit Seneca College's King Campus with a new geothermal system, including a bore field and an overhaul of the building's existing mechanical room.
Seneca College funded the program through Ontario's Innovation Grants Fund as part of the Greenhouse Gas Campus Retrofits Program. The project includes roughly 40,000 feet of linear piping installed up to 400 feet below the campus parking lot.
This retrofit reduced emissions at Seneca's Garriock Hall by over 50%. Bird Infrastructure installed heating and cooling coils to all existing air handling units, upgraded supply and return fan systems, and provided assistance in commissioning and training.
